Creating a comp round
You can create, in the v10 application, as many comp rounds as you need; the system does not limit the number of items that you can create. Creating multiple comp rounds enables you to apply a fine granularity when it comes to comp round frequency, access and eligibility.
To create a comp round, proceed as follows:
Click New Comp Round in the "Comp Rounds" section of the "Compensation" component, as illustrated in the following figure:
Comp round creation
The "New Comp Round" contextual window is opened.
-
Enter the basic properties of the new comp round in the contextual window:
Enter the name of the round in the Name field
Enter a description for the round in the Description field
Select a date range for the round using the Start Date and End Date fields
The following figure illustrates the comp round creation contextual window:

Click Save in the lower-right corner of the contextual window. The new comp round is saved in the system in "Draft" status and the comp round configuration page is opened, as described in Viewing a Comp Round in Managing comp rounds.
Configuring a comp round
Once you have created your comp round with some basic properties (see Creating a comp round), you can configure it according to your needs.
To configure a comp round, proceed as follows:
Open the comp round with which you want to work (see Viewing a Comp Round in Managing comp rounds).
In the "Properties" section, enter or edit the basic properties of the comp round.
In the "Configuration" section, select the comp tree, comp elements, historical rounds and forward exchange rates that you want to associate with the comp round.
In the "Access" section, specify the profiles that have access to the comp round, and assign one or several hierarchies to the round.
In the "Eligibility" section, define the eligibility of the round and, if required, define eligibility exceptions.
Click Save in the lower-right corner of the application window. The configuration of the comp round is saved in the system. However, the comp round will not be available in the individual planner until it is published. For more information about comp round publication and statuses, see About Comp Round Statuses in Managing comp rounds.

|||
| Historical Rounds | This multiple choice drop-down list enables you to select the comp rounds that you want to use as historical rounds. When items are selected in this list, they are available for reference in the individual planner. | |||
| Exchange Rate Group |
Enables you to select a exchange rate group to associate to the comp round. This field is mandatory. If not defined, the round cannot be published. |
|||
| Access | ||||
| Assign Permissions by Profile | This multiple choice drop-down list enables you to select the profiles that have access to the comp round. This means that the profiles selected in this list will be able to see the comp round in the individual planner. By default, any profile that you select in this drop-down will have read-only access to the whole comp tree, for the whole duration of the round. You can define finer permissions using permission date ranges. | |||
| New Permission Date Range | This button is available for each profile that you have selected in the Assign Permissions by Profile list. Clicking this button will add a row under the profile name where you can define the type of permission, the comp elements to which the permission applies as well as a start date and an end date. | |||
| Permission |
This field enables you define the type of permission that you want to assign to the profile for the selected elements . The default permission for the comp elements is "view". Available permissions are as follows:
|
Defining a permission date range for a profile | ||
| Elements | This multiple choice drop-down list enables you to select the comp element(s) to which the permission date range will apply. The content of this list depends on the elements selected in the Select Comp Elements field. | |||
| Start Date | Start date of the permission date range. Permission dates are automatically updated if the comp round dates are changed and the permission dates are no longer in the comp round range. | |||
| End Date | End date of the permission date range. Permission dates are automatically updated if the comp round dates are changed and the permission dates are no longer in the comp round range. | |||
| Assign Hierarchies | This multiple choice drop-down list enables you to select the hierarchies in which the comp round will be available. | |||
| Default Hierarchy |
This drop-down list enables you to select a default hierarchy from the items you have selected in Assign Hierarchies. When a default hierarchy is defined, that hierarchy will be opened by default for users when accessing the "Individual Planner" component. This field is not mandatory. If no value is defined, the system will open the first hierarchy in the list when users access the "Individual Planner" component. |
|||
| Eligibility | ||||
| Define Eligibility | This multiple choice drop-down list enables you to select the populations that will be eligible for the comp round. | Defining an eligibility exception | ||
| Add Exception |
This button enables you to add eligibility exceptions by population for specific comp elements by population. Clicking this button will add a row to define an exception with the following fields: Elements, Action and Populations. |
|||
| Elements | This multiple choice drop-down list enables you to select the comp elements to which you want the eligibility exception to apply. The content of this list depends on the elements selected in the Select Comp Elements field. | |||
| Action |
This field enables you to select the type of exception that you want to define on the selected comp element(s). There are two possible actions: Only Eligible For: the selected comp element(s) will be available only for the population(s) that you select in the Populations field Not Eligible For: the selected comp element(s) will not be available for the population(s) that you select in the Populations field |
|||
| Populations | This multiple choice drop-down list enables you to select the population(s) to which you want to apply the eligibility exception. | |||
Defining a permission date range for a profile
When you give a profile access to a comp round, the default permissions are applied (see Comp Round Configuration Parameters). You can however define finer permissions for each selected profile.
To define one or several permission date ranges for a given profile, proceed as follows:
Open the comp round that you want to configure (see Viewing a Comp Tree in Working with comp trees).
Navigate to the "Access" section of the comp round configuration page.
In the Assign Permissions by Profile list, select the profile(s) to which you want to assign permissions. For each selected profile, a box is now displayed under the field, as illustrated in the following figure:
Permission definition
Click New Permission Date Range in the box corresponding to the profile that you want to configure. A new row, containing four fields is added in the box.
-
In the Permission field, select the type of permission that you want to grant to the profile (the default permission is "View"):
Edit: enables the profile to edit the selected item(s) during the defined range
Hide: the selected element(s) will not be visible to the profile for the defined range
In the Elements field, select the elements (from the comp tree) for which you want to define the specific permission. If you change the selected comp tree, then elements in the permissions are updated according to the new comp tree.
In the Start Date field, select the beginning date of the permission date range.
In the End Date field, select the end date of the permission date range.
If required, repeat steps 4-8 to define another permission range for the different/identical elements.
Click Save in the lower-right corner of the application window.
Defining an eligibility exception
Eligibility exceptions enable you to show/hide certain comp elements for or to defined populations exclusively. This feature enables you to manage eligibility to comp elements with a very fine granularity level.
To define an eligibility exception to one or several elements for a given population, proceed as follows:
Open the comp round that you want to configure (see Viewing a Comp Tree in Working with comp trees).
Navigate to the "Eligibility" section of the comp round configuration page.
Click the +Add Exception button (this button is available only if you have already selected a population in the Define Eligibility field; for more information see Comp round configuration parameters). A new row is added just above the button, as illustrated in the following figure:
Eligibility configuration
In the Elements field, select the element(s) for which you want to define an exception.
-
In the Action field, select the type of exception that you want to apply to the element:
Only Eligible For: if you select this permission, the element(s) will be available only for the population(s) that you specify in the exception
Not Eligible For: if you select this permission, the element(s) will be available for originally selected population (in the Define Eligibility) field, but not for the population(s) specified in the population. If a payee is present in both the parent population and an exception, then the exception takes precedence and the element will not be available for the payee.
In the Populations field, select the population(s) to which you want to apply the exception.
If required, repeat steps 3-6 to define another eligibility exception.
Click Save in the lower-right corner of the application window.
Viewing a preview of a comp round
Once a comp round has been fully configured with all the required parameters, you can then open a preview of what the comp round will look like to users in the individual planner.
There are two locations from which you can open a preview of a comp round:
In the comp round configuration page, click Preview in the upper-right corner of the page, as illustrated in the following figure:
Comp round preview from the configuration page
In the comp round list ("Comp Round" section of the "Compensation" component), locate the round that you want to preview, hover your mouse cursor over the corresponding tile and then click the
icon, as illustrated in the following figure:
Comp round preview from the list of rounds
Whether you choose to open the preview from the comp round list or the comp round configuration page, the application opens a contextual window that displays the comp round the way users will see it in the individual planner, as illustrated in the following figure:
