Planning an Advanced Analytics report
This document can be used as a template to design your Advanced Analytics report before actually starting the creation of the report in the beqom TCM application. beqom recommends that you refer to this document every time a new Advanced Analytics report is required.
Step 1 - Why, Who, What, When
The first step in designing your report consists not in actually building it, but in identifying the key aspects that relate to the report, mainly:
Why: identify the purpose and the objective of the report
Who: identify the target audience of the report
What: identify the call to action that the report should trigger
When: identify the update frequency of the report
Step 2 - Build a Mockup of the Report
The second step in design an Advanced Analytics report consists in creating a mockup of the report. The objective of this step is to plan the layout of the report, without fumbling with widget size and placement once you are in the interface. This will also give you a rough idea of the final appearance of the report and let you know what works and what doesn't work.
In the mockup, you need to:
Select which widgets you want to use
Define calls to action
Define report-level filters and widget-level filters
Step 3 - Identify the Key Indicators for the Report
Next, you need to identify the data (indicators) that you want to represent in the report and map those indicators to the criteria available in your data source. These indicators need to be relevant data that will support and trigger decision-making.
Step 4 - Identify the Data Used to Support You Analysis
You now need to identify the additional data that will be used to articulate the analysis of the key parameters of the report. This is usually data that relate to the key information that will be displayed in the report. For instance, if one of the key parameters of the report is "Revenue", you might want to add metrics such as time periods, territory information or employee information.
You also need to map these indicators to the criteria in your data source.
Step 5 - Start Building the Report in the Interface
Provided that you have been granted the "Designer" role in the beqom TCM application, you can now start building your report in the application interface.
Case Study
For the purpose of this document, we will be studying the example of a Sales Manager report.
Step 1 - Why, Who, What, When
Report objective (Why):
Checking quarterly sales target achievement rates.
Taking action on low achievement rates.
Comparing the growth in revenue, margin and volume against the previous year.
Estimating the targets for the following year based on the achievement rates for the current year and the previous year
Report target audience (Who):
Power users such as Sales Managers and Heads of Sales.
End users (group or individual), such as Team Managers or Sales Managers.
Call to action (What):
Monitor the quarterly performance to detect overall sales target achievement rates and to notify sales managers in case of missing targets or low achievement rates compared to the previous year or the previous quarter.
Data update frequency (When):
Daily
Step 2 - Build a Mockup of the Report
The following figures illustrate an example of mockup for the Sales Manager report:

Step 3 - Identify the Key Indicators for the Report
The following table lists the key indicators for the Sales Manager report, the formulas to measure them and their mapping to the data source:
| Indicator | Measure | Dimension | ||
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Formula | Source Table/View | Content | Source Table/View | |
| Revenue |

| Margin |

Step 4 - Identify the Data Used to Support You Analysis
For this report example, we will applying a history depth of two years.
The following table details the additional data used to support the analysis of the key indicators of the report.
| Data Source Type | Table Name | Description | Max # of Records |
|---|---|---|---|
| Daily sales transaction |
|
Main Transaction table

| Quarterly KPI Target |

Shows the quarterly targets of each KPI. So use indicator 2,3 and 6 (the KPIs that we use for this reprot). Each KPI will focus on sales amount-unit or margin columns in transaction table/ | 20M |
| Plan Name |

| KPIs of the Plans |

Step 5 - Start Building the Report in the Interface
Provided that you have been granted the "Designer" role in the beqom TCM application, you can now start building your report in the application interface.
